Red Dog vs Acey Deucey
There are many differences between Red Dog and Acey Deucey. I'm going to start out with the most obvious and work down from there. Here are some of the differences:
Red Dog is played at a casino or online against a dealer; you bet against the dealer. Acey Deucey is played at home between friends at a poker night or any other card game night; you are betting against the cumulative money in the pot.
You have to bet before you see the first two cards in Red Dog, you must
then decide whether or not to raise and bet double for the third card. In
acey deucey, you get to decide to bet and how much to bet after seeing the
first two cards. Red dog compensates for this forced play by making the
smaller spreads pay out more when they are completed.
In Acey Deucey, if the first card is an ace it can be called to be high or low by the player. A second card is always high. In Red Dog, the ace is always ranked the highest card.
If the third card matches one of your first two cards in Red Dog, you lose your bet. But if this happens in acey deucey, you must pay twice what you bet back into the pot.
Similarly if the first two cards match, you will receive a third card in Red Dog. If the third card matches the first two, you get a payout of 11 to 1 on your bet. If the first two cards match in acey deucey, then another card is dealt and substituted for one of the matching cards and play continues from there.
One deck of cards is used (sometimes two) to play acey deucey. These cards are shuffled once and hands are dealt until the end of the deck. Red Dog usually uses 6 decks of cards. At a casino, there is a cut card that marks when to reshuffle the cards. Online casinos may elect to shuffle after every hand.
